Dr. Tompkins is the director of the Division of Surgery, Science and Bioengineering and the former Chief of the Burns Service at the Massachusetts General Hopsital, Chief of Staff Emeritus at Shriners Hospitals for Children, Boston, and Sumner M. Redstone Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School. 

He is a national leader in burn research and outcomes as well as past-president of the American Burn Association and International Society of Burn Injury.


Dr. Tompkins is an internationally recognized expert in burn injury research and brings his vast experience as PI of the Multicenter Benchmarking Outcomes Study Group to his role as Administrative Co-Director of BH-BIMS.

Research Interests: Metabolic and inflammatory responses to injury, tissue engineering.
